Area covered: Woking, Guildford, Camberley, Windsor and the surrounding area, up to about 20 miles

Helen has been a chartered physiotherapist for more than twenty years, and lives near Woking. Most of her week is spent in people’s homes across Woking and the villages around it: after a hip or knee replacement, after a fracture or a fall, or when someone’s walking has been slipping for a while and the family has decided it is time to do something.

Her background is in orthopaedics. She worked in trauma and orthopaedics at St George’s in Tooting and at Northwick Park, where many of her patients were recovering from complex multiple injuries, multilevel surgery or revision joint replacements. That is why the complicated cases do not faze her — the fracture that has not healed as expected, the second replacement, the person with three conditions pulling in different directions.

She has been treating people at home since 2009, including ten years with a private community rehabilitation practice, and joined The Caring Physio in 2022. She works closely with occupational therapists, social services and families, and she sets goals with the person, not for them.

Helen also knows the local NHS from the inside. At Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals she was a senior outpatient physiotherapist and acting clinical lead for musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She helped set up first-contact physiotherapy clinics in GP surgeries across Surrey and trialled appointments that let patients be treated at home. Before that she ran service improvement for community health services in Sutton and Merton. When a family is lost in the system, she can explain how it works.

Alongside exercise and walking rehabilitation she uses hands-on treatment and acupuncture, and she is a trained Pilates instructor.

“I love working with patients in their own environment and assisting them to reach their full potential.”
