The area’s main NHS acute hospital is Peterborough City Hospital (North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust), and the same trust runs Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon. A spell on a ward often costs strength and confidence, so we move quickly: we can frequently be at the door within 48 hours of discharge — including for people recovering at home after orthopaedic surgery such as a hip or knee replacement. Call us as soon as you have a discharge date and we’ll have a plan in place before your loved one is home.

Why the first few weeks matter. Muscle strength can fall away surprisingly fast during a hospital stay, particularly for older people, and confidence often goes with it. The first two to three weeks at home are when rehabilitation makes the biggest difference — getting safely in and out of bed, managing the stairs, walking to the bathroom without fear of falling. Waiting weeks for an appointment can mean losing ground that’s harder to recover later.

What we do when you come home. We start with a full assessment in your own home — looking at how you actually move around your rooms, your stairs, your chair, your bed — and build a plan around the goals that matter to you. That might be walking to the kitchen unaided, getting back out to the garden, or simply feeling safe on your feet again. We work alongside your GP, any carers and the community team, so everyone’s pulling in the same direction.
