Home Physio Across London

The Caring Physio brings physiotherapy to people’s homes across Central and South West London. Our chartered physiotherapists visit flats, houses, care homes and serviced apartments, from Marylebone to Hampton Wick, helping people recover after an operation, a fall, a stroke or a long illness.

London has some of the finest hospitals in the country, yet most of a recovery happens after the discharge letter, on your own staircase and in your own kitchen. That is where we work. We see how you really manage day to day, set goals that mean something to you, and build the strength and confidence to reach them.

Many of the people who call us are arranging help for a mother or father. If that’s you, we’ll keep you informed after each visit, with your parent’s agreement, wherever you happen to live.

Physiotherapy in London Care Homes and Alongside Home Carers

Moving into a care home, or relying on carers at home, often means moving less. Strength and balance fade quickly, and a fall becomes more likely. Regular physiotherapy helps people keep the movement they have and win some back.

  • Walking, standing and getting up from a chair or bed
  • Balance work to lower the risk of falls
  • Rehab after a fall, fracture or hospital stay
  • Exercises carers can continue between visits

Care homes

A care home should be a place to keep living, not just a place to sit.

Families book us privately for a relative, and we work alongside the home's own staff. Care home managers can also contact us about regular visits for residents. Read more about our care home physiotherapy →

Families often call us when:

  • Moved in straight from hospitalDad went from the ward to a care home before he was back on his feet, and nobody has helped him walk since.
  • Needs a seating assessmentMum has been in bed too long and can't sit out safely. We assess her seating and find the right chair or wheelchair so she can get up and sit out in comfort.
  • Falls, or fear of fallingA fall has knocked their confidence, or the staff are worried another one is coming.
  • Most of the day in bed or a chairThey have stopped walking to the lounge or the dining room, and are getting weaker.

Home care agencies & live-in care

Carers are there every day. We help make every day count.

We work with London home care agencies and live-in care providers, adding physiotherapy to the care your client already has.

  • Confident carersWe show carers safe, simple ways to help with walking, standing and transfers.
  • Goals that matterGetting to the garden, the shops or the dinner table, worked on between visits too.
  • Everyone in the loopShort updates for the agency and the family after each visit, with consent.
  • Safer for carers tooGood technique protects the carer's back as well as the client, and makes each transfer calmer.
  • Straight after a hospital stayWe can start as soon as your client is home, while the gains from hospital rehab are still fresh.

Agencies can refer a client directly, and families can ask us to work with the carers they already have.

Your London Physiotherapists

Two chartered physiotherapists look after our London patients. One joined us from an NHS hospital pain team, with a musculoskeletal background; the other has nearly 15 years in the NHS, much of it in intermediate care. We match you with the one who suits the problem and your address, and wherever we can, the same person sees you each time.

After a Stay in a London Hospital

Our patients come home from St Mary’s, St Thomas’, Chelsea and Westminster, the Royal Brompton, Charing Cross, St George’s, Kingston, West Middlesex and Teddington Memorial, and from private hospitals including the Cromwell, King Edward VII’s, the Lister, the Princess Grace, London Bridge, New Victoria and Parkside.

We provide post-operative physiotherapy at home after a hip or knee replacement, spinal or shoulder surgery, and major operations such as a bowel resection, as well as rehabilitation after a fracture, a fall or a spell of illness that has left someone weak.

If the operation was private, we take our lead from your surgeon’s protocol and can report back to the surgical team. If you’re still in hospital, phone us before discharge and we’ll plan the first home visit around the date.

We are independent and have no arrangements with any of these hospitals. Our part starts once you’re home.
