Nicole Slement, Chartered Physiotherapist at The Caring Physio

Nicole

Chartered Physiotherapist and Team Development Coordinator

Qualification: BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy. HCPC registered.

Area covered: Berkshire and Oxfordshire

Nicole is a chartered physiotherapist specialising in the care of older adults, with particular expertise in falls prevention, Parkinson’s disease and community rehabilitation. She graduated with multiple distinctions — earning the Jean Blair Medal for the highest practical marks in her year — and has since trained in specialist neurological approaches including the Bobath concept and PD Warrior for Parkinson’s.

For several years Nicole worked in Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s intermediate care team in West Berkshire, across community physiotherapy, falls prevention, hospital discharge and reablement, and “hospital avoidance” — the rapid home visits that keep people safe and out of hospital. She helped set up a care-home step-down rehabilitation facility and ran a Parkinson’s education group for people newly diagnosed. Earlier in her career she gained broad hospital experience in South Africa across neurology, stroke, orthopaedics and intensive care. She also provides weekly physiotherapy at Foxleigh Grove Nursing Home in Holyport, near Maidenhead.

Now in her fifth year with The Caring Physio, Nicole is also our Team Development Coordinator. A qualified practice educator, she mentors and supports our physiotherapists, leads our ongoing CPD programme to keep the team’s skills current, and has helped develop our own physiotherapy exercise app — a tool our physios use and can share with patients to guide their exercises at home. It means the care you receive is backed by a whole team committed to learning and high standards.

“I enjoy working in the community as I feel that treating people in their own homes is the most comfortable for them, the best place for functional rehabilitation and allows the family to be involved when needed. It also allows me to really get to know each individual and what is important to them. I have a special interest in working with older adults, Parkinson’s disease and falls prevention.”
