Kate is a specialist physiotherapist in amputee and prosthetic rehabilitation, with more than two decades of experience and a national reputation in her field. For around sixteen years she worked as a Band 7 specialist physiotherapist at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton — one of the UK’s leading centres for amputee rehabilitation — within St George’s NHS Trust.
Her expertise covers the rehabilitation of both lower- and upper-limb amputees: prosthetic training, re-educating gait, and rebuilding mobility, independence and confidence, with a particular focus on falls prevention. She was also the therapy lead for phantom limb pain, where she pioneered the use of Graded Motor Imagery — work she has presented, and been recognised for, at national and international conferences. Alongside this she has broad experience in neurological rehabilitation, falls prevention and functional electrical stimulation, built across years of NHS rotations. This complex-rehabilitation experience is well suited to case-managed and insurer-funded clients.
A clinical educator and national-course lecturer, Kate has taught physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nurses and mentored students from the UK and abroad— and now shares that expertise with our wider team, helping train colleagues in amputee and complex rehabilitation. She is a member of the British Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Amputee Rehabilitation (BACPAR), and brings that depth of specialist knowledge to every home visit.
“I enjoy working with my patients in the patient’s own environment where they feel most comfortable, getting to know what makes my patients “tick” and working out with my patients how best to get them back to what they want to be doing”.
Interesting fact:
Kate lived in South Africa for 10 years as a child before returning to the UK. She is an ex-rower and is currently undertaking a lifelong renovation of an old farmhouse in SW France with her husband.
